KYE was founded in 2019 by Kat Rulach with the objective of creating printed textile products that have a minimal impact on the environment, each one imbued with uniqueness and longevity. Her passion for sustainable and ethically produced textiles is key to her work and her inspiration reflects this: looking at how the manmade and natural world interact and how they are intrinsically linked together. Kat grew up in St Ives, Cornwall and this area and the surrounding rugged coastline is a key inspiration.
Working from field sketches she uses paper cutouts and collage to develop ideas, creating vibrant palette and pattern combinations that evolve into her playful prints. She blocks prints her designs by hand and combines these with other fabrics to create one-off artworks and homewares. Her material collection is gathered from a range of sources and includes remnants from Scottish textile mills. These unique and quality pieces of cloth bring inspiration and ingenuity into Kat’s textile designs.
Kat graduated in 2018 from the Glasgow School of Art with a BA (Hons) in Textile Design and started KYE studio shortly after, her studio is based in the bustling Barras market in the East End of Glasgow. She is a member of the following organisations:
– Craft Scotland
– Scottish Artists Union
– Crafts Council
– Sustainable Fashion Scotland
– Applied Arts Scotland
